"S"- Carbon 2- stay
The S boat rigging style is two tapered carbon fiber tubes with a forged aluminium gimbal/pin assembly. Boats fitted with S riggers can have K riggers retro'd to them or as an additional set of riggers for trianing as the S riggers are the most fragile and expensive. Often customers will order S boats with an additional set of K riggers. The S rigger offers the open cockpit with nothing infront of the rower, fore and aft adjustment by the use of shims fitted to the boat (-/ 3cm fore and aft) and offers a large range of height adjustment. However, as mentioned they are fragile and expensive compared with K riggers. Hit something and you break a $200 backstay instead of a $30 backstay. They are also not for the faint at heart when it comes to rigging them. You or your coach should be comfortable with rigging boats in order to avoid any pre-race jitters when it comes to rigging this type of boat. Just make sure its all snug before rowing after the riggers have been off the boat.
