Fitting Advice

Since Empacher offers many different hull sizes, some crews of the same weight can fit in different hulls. The Best thing to do is look over the info below and then phone us to talk rigging/hulls.

3 main things you need to think about:

  1. Skill level of the crew.

for example the -32 and -33 pairs are for the same weight, but the -32 is a more nimble and agressive boat offering 3% less wetted surface, but is a more tippy and responsive boat. Same for the -45 (stable) and -46 (nimble 2% less wetted surface) for fours.

  1. Maximum weight and height of the crew.

if you're a Lwt man that is 6 foot 2 and mostly 170 but gets down to 155 for 1 week, it may be good to look at a -15 instead of a -13.

  1. Rigging types

if you need a multipurpose boat to fit 145-180lb athletes in, we make the K rigger for you. If you want a wing rigger for rougher water... and want to rig it as a Starboard rig, you may need a second set of spares for bow and stroke (4 extras in an 8, 2 extras in a 4). Also keep in mind that carbon is more brittle and more expensive for replacing broken riggers. But, if taken care of, Carbon riggers last a LONG time.

Also note C riggers on sweep boats have 4cm less hand clearance as they are not angled across and down as the Aluminium riggers are.
